McLaren Honda Andretti driver Fernando Alonso is the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil 2017 Sunoco Rookie Of The Year.

The double Formula One world champion started the race from fifth place on the grid and led 27 laps of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway but was forced to retire from the race just shy of the race finish following an engine failure.

Alonso made no promises about coming back to the Speedway next season but said in the future he will be that the Verizon IndyCar Series has made a life-ling fan.

The Spaniard went on to thank team owner Michael Andretti, McLaren Executive Director Michael Andretti and the entire McLaren organization along with Sylvia his press officer at McLaren who has been with him for the last three years.
