The 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg last weekend had an incredible 366 overtakes over the course of the 110 lap race.
The race was won by Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan Honda’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 SealMaster, the Frenchman took his second consecutive victory at home at the St Petersburg race.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Robert Wickens was extremely quick over the weekend having claimed the Verizon P1 Award and went on to lead the race for 69 laps.
The event great for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal in the No.15 United Rentals Honda who came from the back of the field having started the race from the back in 24th place to finish the event on the podium in second place just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi.
The new aero-kit certainly showed what it can do and if last weekend’s race was anything to go by we are in for an absolutely phenomenal season.
