Paretta Autosport’s Simona De Silvestro in the No.16 KiwiCo Chevrolet returns to an NTT IndyCar Series road course race for the first time in nine years this weekend at Road America for Sonsio Grand Prix of Road America presented by AMR and speaking to Paddock Eye following her practice session on Friday she said that being in an IndyCar has always been her happy place.
De Silvestro says that she got her best career finishes in an IndyCar and told Paddock Eye that when she was preparing to go out on track today she felt right at home in the car.
The Swiss driver says she is really excited about the weekend ahead and says that the competition is amazing in IndyCar. (There has been seven different pole sitters in seven races).
She said that the teams and drivers in the series are really strong and it just makes her want to perform really well.
Speaking about having Rinus VeeKay and Conor Daly to help her this weekend, De Silvestro joked that the drivers are going to get annoyed with her because of all of the questions she will have for them but she is happy to have them to go through the data with.
De Silvestro will have team owner Ed Carpenter on her timing stand this weekend and she told Paddock Eye that this will be great for her because Ed is a racer and he knows what she is going through in trying to get up to speed this weekend.
De Silvestro said that is great to have Ed in her corner as he will push her and the team to get the most out of the car and to achieve the best result possible for the team to build on for the rest of the season.
