Andretti Autosport team owner Michael Andretti says he hopes that the continuity that his team has for 2020 will help the outfit challenge for the championship again.
It was announced in Mid-Ohio last weekend that Alexander Rossi who began his NTT IndyCar Series career with Andretti in 2016 winning the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade has signed a multi year contract extension with Andretti.
The highly rated Californian currently lies in second place in the championship standings, just 16 points behind leader Josef Newgarden with just four races remaining this year.
Andretti also announced a multi year extension to their contract with Honda. Rossi will have co primary sponsorship from NAPA Auto Parts and AutoNation who have been a long term partner of Andretti Autosport. The team have already confirmed that they will retain Zach Veach, Ryan Hunter Reay and Marco Andretti for 2020.
Speaking about the importance of continuity with his team, Michael Andretti said:
Now we can be ahead of the game. “It takes a lot of the pressure off and makes it good for us planning on how to run the team. We aren’t reacting; we are being proactive. That’s important for the race team and part of the reason we have come on strong the last few years. It makes for great continuity.”
