Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti believes that one of the main reasons for his poor 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season was down to the fact that he was too focused.
Andretti who finished the 2016 season in 16th place feels that his poor performance at the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 set him up for a poor season. In a move that will hopefully help Andretti get back on top of his performance, Bryan Herta joins the No.27 crew having called the strategy for Alexander Rossi when they won the Indianapolis 500.
Andretti’s main aim for 2017 is to smile, he told the Verizon IndyCar website:
It’s just driving the race car and smiling more. Obviously it’s hard to do when you’re struggling, but you’re not going to go fast if you’re not. “I definitely have my back against the wall and I know that, but I’m going to make that the fun part of it. I’m going to make the people that aren’t on my bandwagon regret it. That’s my goal. If I’m able to do that, I’ll be able to smile.
Andretti will join the rest of the Verizon IndyCar Series field at Phoenix International Raceway next Friday and Saturday for the first open test of the 2017 pre-season which will include his new team mate at Andretti Autosport Takuma Sato who has joined the team from AJ Foyt Racing effectively swapping seats with Carlos Munoz.
