Andretti Autosport owner Michael Andretti has put to bed rumors that his withdrawal from talks to purchase a majority shareholding in the Sauber Motorsports AG Group was to do with finances.

Speaking during a conference call following the news that Delvin DeFrancesco will drive the No.29 Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport Honda entry from 2022 onwards, Andretti said that the eleven hour decision to pull out of the deal was to do with control of the team.

Andretti said:

“Don’t believe the rumours of what you were hearing about why it didn’t happen it had nothing to do with financials it was more about control issues, and unfortunately at the 11th hour it was deal we had to step away from”
