Andretti Autosport team manager Rob Edwards has confirmed that Marco Andretti, driver of the No.27 Honda will shakedown Alonso’s No.29 McLaren Honda Andretti at 9AM this morning (Wednesday) at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, weather permitting.
Edwards told Autosport that the plan is for Alonso to pass the rookie orientation programme today so that he can concentrate on the refresh programme upon his return to the speedway on May 15 where he is permitted two sets of Firestone Tires to help him reacquaint himself with the car.
Alonso who will be in the car from 9:30AM this morning will attempt to pass rookie orientation today by competing 10 laps at 205-210mph, 15 laps at 210-215mph and 15 laps at 215mph. The team will aim for Alonso to get this completed over the course of Wednesday’s test.
Edwards revealed that the car will have so much down-force that following Andretti’s lap even he could get in the car for lap 2.
