The penultimate race of the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season takes place today, the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with five drivers still in the running to claim the championship. Alex Palou who leads the championship by 25 points in the No.10 NTT DATA DATA Honda starts today’s 95 lap race from 4th place.
Second-placed Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet starts today’s race from 6th place while third-placed Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hitachi Chevrolet who is 34 points behind Palou starts the race from 17th place.
Defending series champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda who is 49 points behind championship leader Alex Palou will start today’s race from eighth place while his teammate Marcus Ericsson in the No.8 Huski Chocolate Honda who is 75 points behind Palou starts today’s race from seventh.
Any of the four drivers who are 55 points or more behind the championship leader following today’s race will be eliminated from the championship fight.
