Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene has hit out furiously at claims that the timing of telling Kimi Raikkonen he was not being retained next season was the cause for the team’s defeat in their own back garden in Italy last month.
Ferrari chose the eve of the of the Italian Grand Prix where he qualified on pole position to the tell the Iceman that he would not be retained by the team for 2019.
The Finn began discussions with the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team on race day in Monza and just a few days later he was announced as one of their drivers for the 2019 and 2020 F1 seasons.
Arrivabene said that reports the announcement had had an effect on both Kimi’s and Sebastian Vettel’s race performance in Monza was disrespectful to both of his drivers who are professionals.
The Italian said that if Kimi’s performance were as good in Monza at every race following the news then they would give him that sort of news at every race.
