Aston Martin’s Marketing and Communications director has confirmed that the company has yet to decide on its motorsport strategy for 2016 and that includes whether or not they will enter Formula One.
Simon Sproule has admitted that a final decision will be made in January. The company who are part owned by Mercedes Benz, have held talks with Red Bull and the Mercedes customer team’s of Williams Martini Racing and the Sahara Force India Formula One Team.
The Silverstone based Sahara Force India Formula One Team are reported to be the front runner of the trio to conclude a deal with Aston Martin although recent media reports have suggested that discussions have stalled possibly due to the fact that Aston Martin have yet to make a final decision on whether to enter F1 or not.
The company have the full backing and support of Head of Mercedes Benz motorsport Toto Wolff.
It is unclear to what extent Aston Martin would enter Formula One with Force India likely to be renamed as Aston Martin Racing but it is also unclear whether or not they would then badge the Mercedes power unit as Aston Martin.
