McLaren Racing announced on Froday ahead of Sunday’s 24 Hours of LeMans that James Barcley will join the newly formed McLaren United AS World Endurance Championship team.

Details of the new team were announced Friday, the hyber car will be designed by McLaren Racing and will be run in a collaboration with United Autosports.

The Hypercar will feature a V6 twin turbo engine designed by McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive, produced and engineered alongside Dallara.

Barcley will join the team in September after finishing up at the helm of the Jaguar TCS FIA Formula E Team.

He will join the executive leadership team and will report directly to McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown.

McLaren Racing remains the only team to have won the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and 24 Hours of LeMans, (Motorsports Triple Crown).

McLaren Racing head into this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix with a commanding 197 point lead in Formula One’s Constructors championship, meaning the Woking-based outfit are well on their way to retaining their championship.

In the Drivers championship, McLaren currently have a 1-2 with Oscar Piastri leading Lando Norris by ten points.
