Fernando Alonso expects that having three cars for the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 24 will be beneficial to the Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet NTT IndyCar Series team.
It was announced last week that the double Formula One world champion will return to the Brickyard with Arrow McLaren SP alongside their new drivers Patricio O’Ward and Oliver Askew.
Speaking about the decision to return to the ‘Greatest Spectacle In Racing’ the Spaniard said that after five season’s with the team in in Formula One he wanted to show some loyalty to McLaren.
Alonso believes that where they were unsuccessful last season in their attempt at qualifying for the race that the team have learnt from the humbling experience and with experience of Sam Schmidt and his team behind them, Alonso is sure that the Indianapolis 500 will be good for the team.
Alonso said that having three cars to work with will prove to be beneficial to the team and help to move them forward as they will be able to communicate their ideas with each other.
Alonso said that being a one car team in 2019 was a penalty for them and he went on to say that he feels that the team and himself need to give something back.
Alonso will be not only be able to bounce ideas off more team mates this year but hs will also be working alongside Craig Hampson a veteran of the NTR IndyCar Series.
