Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden driving the No.21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet heads into the winter following his best season in the Verizon IndyCar Series to date.

Newgarden came back from a broken clavicle and hand to win in Iowa earlier this season and ended the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma in sixth place having held off a late challenge from Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves.

Newgarden ended the season as the best of the rest behind Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, Will Power and Helio Castroneves, ending the season on 502 points.

Newgarden who is a free agent with his contract up with Ed Carpenter Racing has been heavily linked with a move to Team Penske in place of Juan Pablo Montoya with Juan moving in the opposite direction to ECR.

Following the race, Newgarden was remaining tight lipped about his future and confirmed that he will take the next few weeks off before switching focus to 2017.

Speaking following the race, Newgarden commented by saying:

We needed on more car in front of us (to finish 3rd in the championship), but we were a little too far back – 6th just didn’t get it done! I did everything I could to keep Helio (Castroneves) behind me to see if it would shake out our way but it just didn’t. There’s nothing for us to hang our heads about, we had a phenomenal year in our own right. We have a great team, great sponsors, great crew, so we’re not going to go into the offseason hanging our heads about anything!

Spencer Pigot had a disappointing end to his first Verizon IndyCar Series campaign in the No.20 Samsung Chevrolet as he was classified in 22nd place having suffered a mechanical issue.

Speaking following the race he commented by saying:

We struggled a little bit on red tires at the beginning, but once we got onto blacks the car was pretty good. We were catching up to the guys in front when we unfortunately had an issue with the driveshaft failing coming out of Turn 11. The guys did an awesome job not only this weekend but also all season. I can’t thank Ed Carpenter Racing, Samsung, Fuzzy’s Vodka and Rising Star Racing enough for the opportunity this year and now I’m looking forward to the offseason!”
