Firestone Racing are celebrating a pretty big milestones this weekend at their home race the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio sports car course. Harvey Firestone set up the Firestone Tire and Rubber company in Akron, Ohio which is just 75 miles away from the Mid-Ohio sports car course.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Firestone’s merger with Bridgestone corporation to create the world’s largest tire and rubber manufacturer.
This weekend at Mid-Ohio, Firestone are bringing more than 1,500 race tires for the event with each driver receiving the following allocation:
- Seven sets of the Primary Tire
- Four sets of the Alternate Tire
- Five sets of the Rain Tire
Speaking about the race this weekend, Chief Engineer of Firestone Racing Cara Adams commented by saying:
Mid-Ohio is as close to a hometown race for the Firestone Race Tire Engineering team as we get, and its proximity to our Akron campus allows for many of our tire builders, engineers, technicians and their families to come enjoy INDYCAR racing over the weekend. “For the 2018 race, we are bringing the same primary tires used for the Indy GP, but we are using a split alternate compound strategy. The left-side alternate compound is the same as the Indy GP, and we will have new, softer compounds on the right side.”
