Birmingham are in advanced talks with ABB Formula E officials about hosting a round of the all electric motor racing series in the Summer of 2019 according to the West Midlands mayor Andrew Street.

Street revealed that the city have been in talks with ABB Formula E for over a year and that they want to use the event to showcase the technology industry in Birmingham.

It would also be a fantastic motorsport addition to Birmigham which plays host to the annual Autosport International Show which launches the motor racing season every January at Birmigham’s NEC Arena.

Street said:

So much of the engineering that goes into the cars already used in Formula E racing comes from the West Midlands, it makes perfect sense we should be hosting such events.

Birmingham played host to a round of the Formula 3000 championship known as the Super Prix which took place from 1986 to 1990. It is believed that if the deal is concluded the track layout would be similar to the one that was used for the Super Prix.
