It has been 60 years since New Zealander Bruce McLaren started the United States Grand Prix at Sebring International Raceway in Florida from pole position and today, fellow Kiwi Jose Blanco will start the FIA US Formula 4 Championship race here from pole position.
Blanco set the fastest time in both official practice session while in qualifying he set a new track record of 2:13.641s and speaking following the session he said:
It was a very good session and went exactly to plan. “I am so happy to get my first pole position of the season. It’s been going really well all weekend. The car’s been fantastic and the Crosslink/Kiwi crew has been working really hard. We were able to put it all together today.
Brazilian Kiko Porto starts the race from second place having set a qualifying time of 2:13.929s and speaking following the session he said:
My qualifying started well and got a P2 start,. “I am looking for a good start tomorrow to maximize points for the championship. My goal is to win podiums to make good points and close the championship gap.
Championship leader, Australian Joshua Car who leads the championship by 61 points starts the race from third place having set a fastest time of 2:14.061s.
Guilherme Peixoto starts the race from fourth place with a time of 2:14.197s. Arthur Leist starts the race from fifth place just ahead of Reese Gold. Speaking following the session Gold said:
My first weekend here in F4 went well. “I am happy with a P6 start and the car felt good. We made some adjustments to make me a lot more comfortable and used to it. The Sebring track is bumpy but it’s a lot of fun.
