Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas was the pace setter in the opening practice session for the British Grand Prix on Sunday at the Silverstone circuit.
The Finn set a fastest time of 01:29.106s ending the session just ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton.
Max Verstappen was third fastest for Red Bull Racing just ahead of his team mate Daniel Ricciardo. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was fifth fastest just ahead of team mate Sebastian Vettel who trialled the shield cockpit protection at the start of the session.
Daniil Kvyat was seventh for Toro Rosso just ahead of McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso and Williams Martini Racing’s Felipe Massa. Stoffel Vandoorne rounded out the top ten in the second McLaren Honda, 1.935s behind Bottas.
Carlos Sainz whose car was cleared by scrutineering on Thursday due to a tethering issue.
Force India’s Esteban Ocon was 12th just ahead of his team mate Sergio Perez.
Romain Grosjean was 14th for the Haas F1 Team just ahead of Williams Martini Racing’s Lance Stroll.
Antonio Giovinazzi was 16th filling in for Kevin Magnussen, ending the session just ahead of Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg and Jolyon Palmer. The Sauber F1 Team’s Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson rounded out the order in 19th and 20th respectively.
