Head of Mercedes Benz motorsport Toto Wolff has revealed that the Brackley based outfit will not go after Valtteri Bottas to replace Nico Rosberg next season. Rosberg, the 2016 world champion has announced his retirement from Formula One effective immediately meaning that Mercedes are looking for a new partner for Lewis Hamilton.
The Mercedes team even placed an advertisement in England’s Autosport magazine for their new driver.
Wolff, who is part of Valtteri Bottas’ management team revealed that Bottas is important to Williams Martini Racing’s plans for the 2017 Formula One season.
Mercedes are also talking to Pascal Wehrlein with Wolff confirming earlier this week that their talks over a seat at Sauber for the German are on hold for the time being with the team also considering Esteban Ocon, however Ocon is already under contract to the Sahara Force India Formula One Team.
Wolff also confirmed earlier this week that the team could go after McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso if they were able to get the Spaniard out of his contract with the Woking outfit.
