KVSH Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.11 Team Hydroxycut Chevrolet picked up in Detroit where left off last season by taking victory in race 1. The Frenchman who won the second race here last season came home just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Conor Daly and Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya.
Bourdais made use of the caution that came out on lap 13 following Max Chilton’s crash topping off on fuel and speaking following the race he said that this was key to his race winning strategy:
When the yellow came out and we came in and topped up on lap 13, that really was the key moment for us. From that moment onwards, every time we were a little bit out of sync and could produce fast laps when the guys were coming out of the pits. I could run pretty quick with the Firestone black tires. I was very happy with the car.”
“I’m not sure I know the scenario actually because I think I missed a couple of steps how we got from 13th to 16th to 18th to last pretty much, 13th again, then jumping into the lead. It was a rather interesting day and a great team effort from the Hydroxycut – KVSH Racing crew. To do that for Chevrolet in Detroit means a heck of a lot.”
“I can only hope for good conditions and hopefully a better qualifying because I think if we put that 11 car up front in qualifying it’s going to be tough to beat.
