Arrow McLaren SP’s Oliver Askew will return to the cockpit of the No.7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet for thos weekend’s 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season ending Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg after being passed fit to compete by the IndyCar medical team.
I appreciate all of the support Arrow McLaren SP have given me through this difficult time. I would like to thank Dr.Billows and the IndyCar Medical Team as well as Dr.Collins and the UMPC Sports Medicine Concussion Program for their advice and care which allowed me to take the time I needed to fully recover and prepare for the NTT IndyCar Series finale. I am looking forward to a strong finish to the season.
Askew missed the last two races of the season, the Harvest Grand Prix double-header on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course due to concussion like symptoms.
Askew will leave Arrow McLaren SP at the end of the season and is reunited with his team mate Pato O’Ward.
Speaking about the news, Arrow McLaren SP team co owner Sam Schmidt said:
We appreciate the difficulties that athletes may have in recognizing symptoms of concussion like injuries and seeking the appropriate treatment. We are glad Oliver was able to receive appropriate medical guidance and collaborate with the NTT IndyCar Series physicians to gain clearance and compete for Arrow McLaren SP this weekend. It’s good to see Oliver return to the cockpit of the No.7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet and we look forward to a positive result this weekend.
