McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown says that the company are taking the wait and see approach with Pato O’Ward in relation to the possibility of the Mexican driver moving across to their Formula One Team.

Brown believes that O’Ward should continue to focus on the NTT IndyCar Series where in 2021 he was one of the standout performers during the season, claiming two victories in Texas race 2 and Detroit race 2 on his way to finishing third in the championship on 487 points.

Brown says that the team will use O’Ward’s test in Abu Dhabi at the end of the Formula One season to evaluate his performance and see how he gets on.

Brown has also suggested that O’Ward could do what Juan Pablo Montoya and Jacques Villeneuve did and transition to Formula One after winning the IndyCar championship.

Montoya worked alongside Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist at Arrow McLaren SP this season ahead of the Indianapolis 500 last May.

O’Ward visited the McLaren Technology Centre earlier this week to deliver his two rsce winners trophies.
