Former Formula One driver turned commentator Martin Brundle believes that it is time for Ferrari to replace Kimi Raikkonen as Brundle believes the Iceman is no longer an effective rear gunner for Sebastien Vettel in the fight for the championship.
Brundle points to nistakes that Raikkonen has made in qualifying most recently in Canada when the Finn started the race from fifth place having been on course for a potential podium finish.
While Sebastien Vettel is leading the championship, Raikkonen is currently in fifth place in the championship.
Brundle believes that the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team’s Charle LeClerc who is a Ferrari junior driver is the most logical replacement for Raikkonen.
Despite Brundle’s comments, Raikkonen who has matched Vettel several times this season and out-qualified the four time world champion on occassion this year is reportedly on the verge of signing a one year contract extension with Ferrari according to media reports in Italy.
