Former Formula One driver and Sky Sports F1HD commentator Martin Brundle believes that Pascal Wehrlein is Mercedes only option to replace Nico Rosberg in 2017 as he feels the Brackley based outfit will not be able to sign Valtteri Bottas from Williams Martini Racing.

Brundle believes that Williams will need the experience with the amount of development during 2017 will be huge and the team at Grove will need an experienced driver to help with feedback and Brundle believes that rookie Lance Stroll is not in that position just yet.

Brundle says he sees no other option than for Mercedes to put Wehrlein in the car alongside Lewis Hamilton next season.

Wehrlein, who is part of the young driver programme at Mercedes drove alongside Esteban Ocon with Manor Racing.
