The addition of Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Jimmie Johnson to Arrow McLaren SP’s driver line up in 2021 will be fantastic for the team as they head into their second season in the NTT IndyCar Series.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown confirmed on Monday that the team are looking at bringing Jenson Button into their NTT IndyCar Series team and that this plan has been put on hold due to COVID 19.
NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson was due to test for the team at Barber Motorsports Park however this has been put on hold.
Fernando Alonso is scheduled to compete in the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis in July and the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on August 23.
Patricio O’Ward and Oliver Askew make up Arrow McLaren SP’s full time NTT IndyCar Series line up for 2020 so having Fernando Alonso for at least two races in 2020 and the prospect of Jenson Button and Jimmie Johnson joining the team in late 2020/21 will be a major boost to the team.
Button and Johnson may not have NTT IndyCar Series experience but Fernando Alonso does and Button and Johnson have years of other racing experience which will be extremely beneficial to Arrow McLaren SP’s NTT IndyCar Series programme.
