McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has revealed that he has held talks with 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button about the possibility of the Englishman driving for Arrow McLaren SP in at least one NTT IndyCar Series in 2020 but that those plans have been put on hold for now.

Speaking to Motorsport.com Brownsaid that prior to the COVID 19 global pandemic the team had also planned to give Jimmie Johnson a test in their IndyCar. Johnson joined the team during IndyCar’s Spring Training event at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas in February.

Paddock Eye understands that Johnson was due to test for the team at Barber Motorsports Park in April and those plans have also been put on hold for now.

Double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso will attempt to qualify for the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday August 23. Paddock Eye has learned that the Spaniard will also compete in the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis over the July 4 weekend.
