Firestone Racing, the official tire supplier to the Verizon IndyCar Series will bring more than 1,700 tires to this weekend’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.
Firestone have made the red walled Alternate tire of which each driver will receive four sets for the weekend. They are bringing the black walled Primary tire of which drivers will receive **eight sets for the weekend. (**Does not include rookie set), They are also bringing the grey walled rain tire of which each driver will receive five sets of tires.
Chief Engineer with Bridgestone Americas Motorsports, Cara Adams commented by saying:
“Firestone Race Tire Engineers are all set for Detroit, rain or shine. We have the same race-proven primary and alternate tires that were used earlier this year at St. Petersburg, FL and Long Beach, CA. “Our softest construction tires made especially for the demands of a street course will be used. These tires have to accelerate, brake, and turn over all kinds of pavement and bumps you’d find on public roads. The streets of Belle Isle have freshly grooved concrete in some turns, and we look forward to running on this updated surface. If we do get rain, this will be the first time the rain tire (introduced in 2015) will see in-race usage.
