Ed Carpenter Racing team owner, Ed Carpenter says he has spoken to Aston Martin Cognizant F1 Team reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg about the possibility of the German testing for the team, however, Carpenter says that there are a lot of parts to such a move and finding the best possible scenario for the German.
Carpenter has also weighed in his former teammate Ryan Hunter Reay’s future in the sport with rumors that the American is set to step back from a full-time seat in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2022. Carpenter said that it is unlikely that Ryan Hunter Reay will join his team in 2022 unless they expand their program to a three-car operation which he feels at the moment is not likely.
Paddock Eye understands that Ryan Hunter Reay will switch from a full-time to a part-time program in the NTT IndyCar Series next season.
There has been a suggestion that Hunter Reay could compete on ovals only next season, but that it is unlikely to be Ed Carpenter Racing given that Ed Carpenter will continue to compete in oval races next season alongside Rinus VeeKay.
