Ed Carpenter goes into this weekend’s ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway and next weeks Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway aiming to end his season on a high.
Carpenter, the only owner/driver in the Verizon IndyCar Series has had a best oval finish in 2016 of 18th place which came at the Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway last month, a race which was won by Carpenter’s team mate Josef Newgarden who took a dominant win and is currently in 4th place in the series standings.
Carpenter has three previous races in Pocono with a best finish here of ninth place. Two weeks ago, ECR took part in a test a Pocono Raceway and speaking about the test, Carpenter who drives the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet commented by saying:
Pocono, we just had a really successful test there (Aug. 4), We’ve had strong cars there, but of all the ovals in the series, that’s probably been the least strong circuit for myself.
For the Firestone 600 next week, Carpenter will restart the race at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday from fifth place.
Speaking about the race in Texas, Carpenter commented by saying:
It’s a great place to race. It’s a great place to win. You know, they really treat you right there. Hopefully we’ll go out on a high note and have something to be happy about all off-season.
