NTT IndyCar Series team owner Ed Carpenter says that he would welcome drivers from other series competing in the NTT IndyCar Series for real however warned that it is not that simple.
Speaking to Paddock Eye during an IndyCar video conference call on Friday ahead of Saturday’s NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge at the Circuit of the Americas he said that team’s like his would have to find extra sponsorship in order to run drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Carpenter was joined on the call by McLaren Racing’s Formula One driver Lando Norris who makes his NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge debut with Arrow McLaren SP and Carpenter said that it would be easy for someone like Norris to jump into an IndyCar race seat due to the fact that McLaren have a team in IndyCar.
Carpenter said that he would have no objections to other drivers coming into the series as it would help to raise interest in the sport and also the overall profile of the sport.
Carpenter’s comments come as Fernando Alonso is set to return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August with Arrow McLaren SP in an attempt to qualify for the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge which has moved to August 23.
