Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves heads into this weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma off the back of a podium finish last time out at the IndyCar Grand Prix at Watkins Glen presented by Hitachi.

Castroneves who has yet to win a Verizon IndyCar Series title finds himself in fourth place in the series championship equal on points with reigning series champion Scott Dixon.

In Watkins Glen two weeks ago, the Brazilian finished the race in third place behind Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race, Castroneves who has not yet won a race in 2016 commented by saying:

The championship is not available for us, but there is still plenty to race for. Final points position is still up in the air, as is winning the race. The No. 3 Hitachi Chevrolet team has been tenacious all season long and we’ll finish strong. Sonoma is a track that we’re very familiar with. It’s very challenging and we’ve had good results there. I don’t think our finishes there the last couple of years is representative of the car we had. I’m definitely looking forward to getting out there and closing out the season on a strong note.

Juan Pablo Montoya heads into what is believed to be his last race weekend as a Penske driver in 14th place in the series standings following what has been an extremely tough season for the Colombian which has resulted in the speculation about his future as his contract with the Captain is up at the end of the season.

Montoya has claimed one victory this season which came at the opening race of the year, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg and speaking ahead of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma Montoya commented by saying:

Sonoma is a great place to close out the season. The track is challenging and competitive. It’s a place that really displays what the cars are capable of. We’ll have the hum by Verizon Chevy this weekend and I’m really excited about it. This season didn’t play out the way we wanted, but at the end of the day it is a championship season for Team Penske. A championship for our team was the primary goal, obviously, but getting one for the team is just behind that.
