Team Penske’s Helio Castrovenes in the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet was the pace setter in Saturday evening practice session at Phoenix International Raceway.
Castroneves completed 117 laps and ended the session just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti in the No.27 Snapple Honda. Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda was third fastest completing 86 laps.
It was a good session for the No.14 ABC Supply Co sponsored AJ Foyt Racing Honda of Takuma Sato as the Japanese driver ended the session in fourth place.
Carlos Munoz did a great job in the No.26 Andretti Autosport machine as he finished the session in fifth place just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Luca Filippi who in turn ended up just ahead of reigning series champion Scott Dixon.
Conor Daly did a great job for Dale Coyne as he finished the session in 9th place just ahead of the Chevrolet powered Ed Carpenter Racing enter of Ed Carpenter while Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya rounded out the top ten having completed 101 laps. Chip Ganassi Racing Team’s Tony Kanaan ended the session in the No.10 NTT Data Chevrolet in 11th place just ahead of Graham Rahal in 12th.
Charlie Kimball ended the test in 13th place in the No.83 Ganassi car just ahead of Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud.
Gabby Chaves completed the most laps of anyone on Saturday as he managed 138 laps and recorded the 15th fastest time overall ending his session just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden.
Max Chilton in the No.8 Ganassi was 17th just ahead of Sebastien Bourdais. James Hinchcliffe was in 19th place for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
Rounding out the order were Team Penske’s Will Power and AJ Foyt Racing Jack Hawksworth.
