CBS has confirmed that they will not be bidding for the domestic broadcasting rights to the NTT IndyCar Series when their current contract with NBC Sports comes to an end at the end of the 2021 season. The news comes amid reports that NBC are set to renew their contract with the NTT IndyCar Series beyond the end of this season despite the fact that NBC announced recently that they are closing down NBCSN.
Speaking to the Associated Press about IndyCar, President of CBS Sports Sean McManus commented saying:
“I can tell you that we will not have IndyCar next year. “Our commitment right now is to SRX and our programming schedule really precludes us from picking up a series like the IndyCar Series. Even on Indianapolis 500 week, on race day, we’ve got commitments to golf.”
Paddock Eye understands that NBC Universal, the parent company of NBCSN are looking to broadcast the NTT IndyCar Series on NBC while also utilising their online streaming platform, Peacock for additional content just as they are do now.
