Former Formula One driver turned Sky Sports F1 HD pundit Karun Chandhok says he believes that it was nice of Ferrari to take a punt on Charles Leclerc and it will be interesting to see how his gets on alongside Sebastien Vettel.
We asked Karun about the arrival of Mattia Binotto and he said he believes the Italian will do a good job but wonders how he spread his time between the technical and commercial side of the business and that Ferrari should have looked at a similar model to Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull, Toto and James Allison, Adrian Newey and Christian Horner and Ron Dennis and John Barnard.
When it comes to Mercedes, Chandhok believes that they will have competition from Ferrari and Red Bull Honda this season and that they will not have it all their own way.
Karun believes that it is fantastic that the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team have brought in Kimi Raikkonen for this season and that they will benefit from Kimi’s experience and technical background, he said that Raikkonen has already been to the Sauber HQ more than he did at Ferrari.
We asked Karun which car past or present would he like to drive, he said it is very difficult to pick just one, but there are three which are the Williams FW14B which he has driven at Silverstone and it was amazing, he also wants to drive the McLaren MP44 4 and he would like to drive the 2004 Ferrari as to him it was the pinnacle of F1 performance, Karun also said he would love to drive the Lotus 49 as he believes it is the most important car in F1 design history.
Chandhok hopes that Honda will be competitive this year with four cars to share data among more freely. Chandhok concluded by saying that no one wants to see one team dominate and he hopes that there will be more competition among the top three teams.
