Verizon IndyCar Series driver Max Chilton has said that he was surprised at the fact that he was faster than he thought as he drove his first laps in the No.8 Ganassi Chevrolet at Sonoma Raceway.
The 24 year old who steps up to the Verizon IndyCar Series following a year with Trevor Carlin in the Indy Lights programme commented by saying:
It’s a bit of a shock today, I haven’t been in a racing car in six months and that was an Indy Lights car, so I’ve got to learn the track today and the car.
Chilton who drove in Formula One with the Manor F1 Team from 2013 – 2014 went on to say:
But I think the morning went swimmingly well. I was quicker than I thought I would be. It’s a really nice kit and I can’t wait to explore it throughout the season.
Chilton was joined on track by his Ganassi team mate’s, defending champion Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Charlie Kimball. Chilton’s test comes as there is exactly one month to go until the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series gets underway at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
Chilton was in action on the same day that it was confirmed that his primary sponsor for the 2016 season will be Arthur J Gallagher and Co.
