Citroen Racing WRC Team Principal Yves Matton has confirmed his outfit are not yet ready to make an announcement regarding their 2018 driver line-up. The French manufacturer endured a tough 2017 season.
Matton has confirmed that the team are in talks with Sebastien Loeb for 2018 about the Frenchman returning to the World Rally Championship with the team.
Kris Meeke, Craig Breen and Stephane Lefebrve competed in the majority of events in 2017 with Meeke ending the season as the highest placed of the team’s drivers ending the year in seventh place in the championship on 77 points.
Loeb is committed to the World Rallycross championship with Peugeot next year and will also compete in the DAKAR Rally.
Matton confirmed that the team will consider their driver options and make an announcement about who will drive for them in 2018 in the coming weeks and need to consider the global impact on the company depending on who will they will have driving for the them.
Speaking about the teams preparations for the 2018 World Rally Championship, Matton commented by saying:
Preparations began several months ago. In the design office, the workshop and in testing, the C3 WRC is permanently undergoing development. Some upgrades have already been introduced, others are undergoing approval, pending homologation. The technical team, led by Christophe Besse, has a clear vision of the areas in which we need to improve. The times set in Spain, Wales and Australia lead us to believe that our car is competitive. As regards the drivers, we will shortly announce our plans. It’ll be a matter of weeks, since preparations for the Rallye Monte-Carlo will begin in December. One thing I can confirm is that Sébastien Loeb will not be taking part in the opening round of the season. The fact that Monte starts just days after the Dakar Rally ends means that he wouldn’t be able to do himself justice.
The 2018 World Rally Championship season will be officially launched at the 2018 Autosport International Show which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC Arena. For ticket information visit – http://www.autosportinternational.com/welcome
