Williams Racing confirmed on Saturday that Franco Colapinto will compete in tonight’s Las Vegas Grand Prix after being medically cleared to compete following his crash in qualifying.
Williams released the following statement:
Following Franco’s incident in Qualifying yesterday, he has undergone a thorough follow-up evaluation from the event medical team today and has been cleared to race in this evening’s Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Franco’s health is our main priority, and we are relieved that he is well enough to race following such a significant incident. We thank the medical staff for prioritising Franco’s health and wellbeing and for the excellent care he received.
We are extremely thankful to our incredible garage team for their hard work overnight to repair Franco’s car and our fans and partners for their continued support. We have taken the opportunity to make some set-up changes during the repair and, as a result, Franco will start the race from the pitlane.
We are looking forward to going racing under the lights tonight.
Mercedes George Russell starts the race from pole position ahead of Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly who had a fantastic qualifying for the Alpine F1 Team.
Charles Leclerc starts the race from fourth just ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
Yuki Tsunoda who, earlier this week drove a Honda-powered INDYCAR at Las Vegas Speedway starts from seventh just ahead of Oscar Piastri and Nico Hulkenberg.
Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top ten.
Esteban Ocon is 11th just ahead of Kevin Magnussen and Zhou Guanyu.
Liam Lawson starts the race from 14th just ahead of Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso.
Alex Albon starts the race from 17th just ahead of Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas as Franco Colapinto starts from the pitlane.
