HMD Motorsports’ Caio Collet says he wants to build on the team’s momentum from recent races as they head into this weekend’s INDY NXT by Firestone race at Road America.
Speaking to Paddock Eye on Tuesday, ahead of this weekend’s race, Collet, who is currently third in the championship, said that anything is possible when it comes to the title fight, as with eight races remaining, he is 78 points behind Lochie Hughes and leader Dennis Haugher.
Collet, who finished third last time out at World Wide Technology Raceway, told us that he feels he has learned a lot from his rookie campaign last season to now. In particular, when it comes to oval races, and this rang true over the weekend, where he started the race from the front row and claimed his fourth podium in six races to date throughout the 2025 season.
Collet told us that he felt that the team would have had five podiums from six races had he not had a mechanical issue at Barber Motorsports Park last month, as he believes that the team had the pace to score his first career win, sadly it was not meant to be but that victory is just around the corner.
Collet is from Brazil, a country with a rich heritage of drivers involved in motorsports who have achieved great success.
Speaking about who his inspiration was growing up when it came to racing, he said, three-time Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna and his father who took him to races as a young boy which resulted in him developing his love for motorsports and he said without the support of his day he would not be where is today which is competing in INDY NXT By Firestone where he is in the hunt for the championship in only his second season in the sport
