Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden says that he is confident going into the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series particularly with the same crew that he had last season led by former Red Bull Racing engineer Gavin Ward.
Speaking to Paddock Eye during a media conference call on Tuesday, Newgarden said that it has been great working with Ward and that he brings a lot to the team and that you can draw a lot of comparisons from Formula One and IndyCar with them both being single seater series.
Confidence is big and that he says that Ward is stellar and he has brought a lot to the team and that his experience in Formula One gives Team Penske a lot of scope on how they developed the cars over the off-season and going into race weekends and that Ward has helped to improve race day execution and he is a great collaborator and able to maximize race pace.
Newgarden said that the aim is just to up their game in all areas this season and paying particular attention on the Indianapolis 500 in May.
Newgarden also said that last season he got himself into a hole and was unable to get back at Scott (Dixon). The Tennessee native said that he is just focused on winning his third championship and hopefully his first Indianapolis 500.
Simon Pagenaud says that competing in the Rolex 24 Hours this weekend is extremely beneficial for him going into the new NTT IndyCar Series season as although the cars are different in that one is endurance car, the other is an IndyCar, however they are similar in terms of down-force levels.
The 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season is due to get underway on April 18 at Barber Motorsports Park.
