Andretti Global’s Colton Herta, in the No.26 Gaibridge Honda, has taken over the lead of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver standings following an eighth-place finish in Sunday’s Children’s Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park. Herta started the race from 15th place and came through the field to finish eighth, just behind AJ Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferruci.
Speaking following the race, Herta said:
“Overall, a solid day from where we started. You always want more, but in order to do that we have to start qualifying a little
bit better. I think we achieved pretty close to the maximum of what we could do today and overall the Gainbridge Honda was fast today. We just had to pass a lot of cars to get up there and show our speed.”
Herta leads the championship by one point from Will Power of Team Penske following a third place finish at the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg presented by RP Funding last month while last weekend he came home in second place behind Scott Dixon at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
