Brazilian media are reporting that Williams Martini Racing’s Felipe Massa is in talks about switching to the Haas F1 Team, Renault or even Force India for next season.
It is widely expected that Williams will not renew the Brazilian’s contract into 2017 with deputy team principal Claire Williams stating that they would be happy to have Jenson Button back at the team where he started his Formula One career in the year 2000.
Speaking to the Associated Press Sport however Williams said they would only sign Button if he is available and that they will not wait around for either the 2009 world champion or McLaren Chairman Ron Dennis to make a decision. Williams also said that the team could be interested in signing Sergio Perez for next season if he is available.
So where would that leave Massa? The Brazilian who is out of contract at the end of this season is currently in 9th place in the championship stated earlier this season that money is not a factor in where he will race next season.
With uncertainty surrounding the future of Esteban Gutierrez the Haas F1 Team could be an option for Massa and it would also be a great move the American team to have two highly experienced drivers for next season particularly with all the regulation changes coming in. Renault could also be an option for the Massa if the team decides not to renew either Jolyon Palmer’s or Kevin Magnussen’s contract for 2017.
Alternatively, Force India could also be an option particularly if the suggestion that Sergio Perez’s sponsors have a get out clause in his contract are true.
We will just have to wait and see what if anything happens over Formula One summer break.
