NTT IndyCar Series team owner Dale Coyne is hoping that he can hold onto rookie sensation Santino Ferrucci for the 2020 season.
Ferrucci who led 197 laps in Saturday night’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 has been exceptional this year and has completed the most number of laps of any driver.
Paddock Eye understands that McLaren Racing SP have shown interest in Ferrucci to drive alongside James Hinchcliffe next season but we also understand that Coune is keen to have continuity in his team next season having already confirmed that Sebastien Bourdais will remain with the team in partnership with Jimmy Vasser and James Sulli Sullivan.
Ferrucci who started the race on Saturday night from sixth place ran up front all night long and finished the event in fourth place just behind series veteran Tony Kanaan.
Speaking following the race he said:
“I had so much fun leading this race. Having open air like that and being able to run to a pace, run to your lines and not have to think about it and just enjoy it. Hats off to our crew. We had a race car, a winning race car.”
Ferrucci is currently in ninth place in the NTT IndyCar Series points standings as we head to Portland for this weekend’s penultimate round of the 2019 season.
