Dale Coyne will hold talks with Paysafe today (Tuesday) about who will drive the No.19 Honda in place of the injured Pietro Fittipaldi for this weekend’s IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
The talks were due to take place on Monday however due to the Bank Holiday in the UK (Paysafe are a British company), the talks with take place today.
The fact that Paysafe are a British company could potentially favour Katherine Legge who is from the UK and having a British driver in the No.19 British backed Honda in the most famous motor race in the world would be fantastic.
However Paysafe will also be looking at what is the most financially viable option for them and also for Coyne.
Legge knows the team well having raced for the team previously and as Ed Carpenter Racing’s Danica Patrick showed last week having time out of the car is not a problem as Legge would be back up to speed in no time.
As far as IndyCar are concerned Pietro Fittipaldi was due to run his Rookie Orientation Programme on the opening day of practice next week and Legge would just have to run the same refresher programme that Patrick did.
Outside of IndyCar, if Legge were to be entered into the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil it would be huge news for British motor racing as it would see six British driver enter the Greatest Spectacle in Motor Racing with Jack Harvey, Pippa Mann, Stefan Wilson, Max Chilton and Jay Howard already on the entry list.
