Don Cusick, owner of Cusick Motorsports and a shareholder in LOHLA sports says he hopes that his new partnership with Stefan Wilson and Andretti Autosport for the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge which takes place on Sunday 30 May will lead to more outings in the NTT IndyCar Series in the future possibly as soon as later this season.
It was announced on Tuesday that Stefan Wilson will make his third Indianapolis 500 start later this month after reaching a deal with Michael Andretti and will drive alongside Ryan Hunter Reay, Colton Herta, James Hinchcliffe, Alexander Rossi, and Marco Andretti for ‘The Greatest Spectacle In Racing.’
Speaking to Paddock Eye during a Zoom conference call on Tuesday, Cusick said that he thinks it is awesome that he gets to work with Andretti Autosport and is delighted to have been able to make the deal with Wilson happen.
Cusick said that he hopes that this is just the start of a long-standing partnership with Michael Andretti, Andretti Autosport, and Stefan Wilson. Cusick said that this deal for Indy came together very suddenly and he will sit down with Stefan and Andretti Autosport CEO Michael Andretti after the 500 and discuss their options for further races this season.
Speaking to Paddock Eye during the same call, Wilson said that the familiarity of Alex, Ryan, and Marco is great and that he can learn about restarts from Alex and that in 2018 he felt sort of like a rookie at the Speedway after his issue in 2016.
In 2018, he couldn’t take many risks as the goal was to finish the race as he felt that if he wrecked it would ruin his chances to return and that is why he was more reserved. This year the goal is to utilize the month and keep the momentum and finish the race and give him the a greater opportunity to come back again next season and into the future.
