AJ Foyt Racing’s Conor Daly led the way in the morning session as the Verizon IndyCar Series set up shop at the Gateway Motorsports Park circuit in Illinois on Tuesday in preparation for the August 26 race.
Daly completed 52 laps and ended the session just ahead of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevrolet.
On his return to the Verizon IndyCar Series as he prepares for the IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil at Indianapolis Motor Speedway later this month ended the session in third place in the No.22 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevrolet.
Reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud in the No.1 Menards Chevrolet who took his first victory of the season in Phoenix last weekend ended the session in fourth place just ahead of team mate Helio Castroneves.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 NTT DATA was the fastest Honda powered driver ending the session in sixth place just ahead of owner/driver Ed Carpenter in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet was seventh just ahead of Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet for Team Penske.
Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais was ninth while AJ Foyt Racing’s Carlos Munoz rounded out the top ten in the No.14 ABC Supply Co. Chevrolet.
JR Hildebrand in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet was 11th despite crashing during the session. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda was 12th fastest just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Mikhail Aleshin in the No.7 SMP Racing Honda.
Marco Andretti was 14th fastest just ahead of just ahead of team mate Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda. James Hinchcliffe was 16th fastest in the No.5 Arrow Honda for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
Takuma Sato in the No.26 Andretti Autosport Honda was 17th fastest just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Ed Jones and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Max Chilton.
Alexander Rossi was 20th fastest in the No.98 Andretti Autosport Honda while Charlie Kimball rounded out the order in 21st place in the No.83 Tresiba® Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing. Testing continues this afternoon and is live on – http://racecontrol.indycar.com/
