Former CART driver and Indianapolis 500 champion Gil De Ferran has joined the McLaren Technology Group as an advisor.
The news comes as the company are considering entering the Verizon IndyCar Series full time in 2019.
De Ferran was Fernando Alonso’s driver coach for last year’s Indianapolis 500 and Paddock Eye understands that Alonso will make the move to the Verizon IndyCar Series full time in 2019.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has confirmed that the company are interested in diversifying their racibg programmes and that includes competing in the Verizon IndyCar Series full time.
The Woking based outfit have held provisional talks with Andretti Autosport about a possible tie up.
