As Paddock Eye reported on Sunday the Williams Martini Racing team confirmed on Monday that former Force India driver Paul Di Resta has been named as their official reserve driver for the 2016 Formula One season.
The Scot drove in Formula One with Force India from 2011 – 2013 before returning to the DTM championship with Mercedes Benz.
Di Resta will travel to Grand Prix with the Williams team throughout the season and will be participate in an extension simulator programme to get himself acclimatized to the Mercedes powered FW38 so that he ready should the team require him to fill in for either of their race drivers Valtteri Bottas or Felipe Massa during a race weekend.
Speaking about his appointment to the Grove based outfit, Di Resta stated:
I am delighted to be joining Williams as reserve driver and look forward to the 2016 season. It will be a busy year combining both driving in DTM with Mercedes AMG, and attending the Formula One Grands Prix in my new reserve driver role. I will be giving my full support to both and look forward to the exciting possibilities the year has ahead. I would like to thank Claire and Williams for the opportunity to be part of the team.

We are delighted to welcome someone with Paul’s experience to the team. Having competed in 58 Formula One races throughout his career Paul’s racing knowledge will be invaluable.
