Defending NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon’s hopes of winning a sixth championship are affectively over after the Iceman suffered a battery failure in his No.9 PNC Bank Honda while leading the race.

Dixon fell three laps down as he pitted for a replacement battery and as it stands he is 86 points behind championship leader Josef Newgarden.

There are double points available for the final race in California in three weeks time but it now seems unlikely unless something major happens that Dixon will be champion.
