Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda heads into next weekend’s Verizon IndyCar Series season finale Grand Prix of Sonoma with a 29 point lead in the championship.
The Iceman who bounced back from a tough start to the Portland Grand Prix to finish the race in fifth place said the result felt like a win.
Following a slow start to the season, Dixi hit the ground running at the Indianapolis 500 in May finishing in third place.
The following the race, Detroit race one, the Iceman took his first win of the season. At the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway the Iceman took to Victory Lane.
Dixon followed this result with a third place finish at Road America.
The Chip Ganassi Racing driver took his third victory of the season in Toronto in July and followed this up with back to back podiums in Pocono and at Gateway Motorsports Park.
Dixon and his No.9 crew with Mike Hull, Robbie Fast, Kate Gundlach among the many other members of the No.9 PNC Bank Honda crew have been the class of the field in 2018, however Alexander Rossi and his No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda Andretti Autosport have been extremely quick this year and competitive with the Californian in second place behind Dixon.
