Reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon completed his domination of the Watkins Glen weekend by taking victory at the IndyCar Grand Prix at The Glen presented by Hitachi.
Dixon led the race from pole position and led almost the entire race coming home just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden who was surprised with his podium finish following a tough qualifying session on Saturday. Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves completed the podium places in third place.
Dale Coyne Racing’s Conor Daly brought his momentum from morning warm up by coming home in fourth place just ahead of KV Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.11 Team Hyrdoxycut Chevrolet with Charlie Kimball coming through the field from 14th place to finish the race in 6th place.
Series points leader Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Hewlett Packard Enterprises Chevrolet ended the race in seventh place which was a bonus for him as Will Power his main title rival retired from the race.
Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi ended the race in 8th place just ahead of an extremely impressive RC Enerson ending the race in ninth place while Max Chilton rounded out the top ten.
Carlos Munoz in the No.26 hhgregg Honda was running in the top five for a number of laps and finished the race in 11th place just ahead of team mate Marco Andretti. Juan Pablo Montoya finished the race in 13th place in the No.2 PPG Automotive Refinish Chevrolet. Ryan Hunter Reay was 14th in the number 28 DHL Honda ending the race just ahead of Spencer Pigot.
Jack Hawksworth was 16th just ahead of Takuma Sato in the No.14 for AJ Foyt Racing. Takuma Sato in the No.14 ABC Supply Co Honda ended the race in 17th place while Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe was 18th having ran out of fuel and finished the race a lap down.
Tony Kanaan finished the race in 19th and was the last driving running. Will Power crashed heavily and retired from the race. Graham Rahal and Mikhail Aleshin also retired from the race.
The Verizon IndyCar Series finale, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma takes place in two weeks time.
