Reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet set the fastest time of the morning with a 01:03.7244s ending the session just ahead of the Team Penske pairing of series points leader Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 PPG Automotive Refinish Chevrolet and Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet.
Josef Newgarden was fourth fastest for Ed Carpenter Racing with a fastest time of 01:04.8790s ending the morning just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Chevrolet and Max Chilton who was very impressive in the No.8 Gallagher Chevrolet as the Englishman set a fastest time of 01:04.9376s.
Graham Rahal in the No.15 Steak N’ Shake Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing car was the fastest Honda this morning ending the session in seventh place. The home favourite is hoping to make it two wins in a row at the Mid-Ohio sports car course having won here last season too.
Charlie Kimball in the No.83 Tresiba® Chevrolet was eighth fastest. The 2013 Mid-Ohio winner set a fastest time of 01:04.0889s. Schmidt Peterson Motorsport’s James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda was ninth fastest with a time of 01:04.0954s.
Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda was the fastest Andretti Autosport driver rounding out the top ten.
Team Hydroxycut KVSH Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais was eleventh fastest with a time of 01:04.1694s with Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.2 Hawk Performance Chevrolet ending the session in 12th place.
Mikhail Aleshin was 13th fastest in the No.7 SMP Racing Honda ending the morning just ahead of Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves in the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet.
Dale Coyne Racing’s new Verizon IndyCar Series driver RC Enerson in the No.19 Boy Scouts of America Honda set the 15th fastest time with a 01:04.3887s ending the morning just ahead of Spencer Pigot in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing.
Alexander Rossi in the No.98 Castrol Edge with Curb Honda ending the session in 17th place just ahead of Andretti Autosport team mate Carlos Munoz.
Conor Daly brought out the red flag towards the end of the session in the No.18 Jonathan Byrd’s Hospitality Honda ended the session in 19th place with a fastest time of 01:04.6309s while AJ Foyt Racing endured a tough morning with their drivers Jack Hawksworth and Takuma Sato ended the morning in 20th and 21st place.
Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti in the No.27 Snapple Honda rounded out the order in 22nd place.The Nazareth native who is in 17th place in the Verizon IndyCar Series standings on 220 points set a fastest time of 01:04.7668s.
